Curtains close on the East Arm Wharf Container Crane

Darwin’s oldest Port icon, the East Arm Wharf Container Crane, is currently being dismantled following a 40+ year service to both East Arm and Fort Hill Wharves.

The dismantling will take place over 6 weeks, wrapping up by 30 August 2014.

A $730,000 contract was awarded to industry experts, Inver Engineering, from Victoria.  Inver has been involved in the dismantling of more than 12 other container cranes across the country over the past 6 years.

Port’s Safety and Engineering Managers have been working closely with Inver to ensure the work is undertaken in a safe environment and to date the successful completion of the boom, strays, back-reach, machine room and “A” frame have been removed.
