Flare Demonstration Alert

Mariners and interested parties are advised that a Flare Demonstration is scheduled to occur between 0830 and 1030 Friday 25 March 2011. The flare will be visible off East Point Reserve and from certain aspects within Darwin Harbour.The demonstration will be carried out by Seafood and Maritime Industries Training (SMIT). Stokes Hill Wharf Upgrade

Today the Chief Minister announced the sucessful contractor for the refirbishment of the under-deck infrastructure of Stokes Hill Wharf. Upgrades to Darwin’s popular Stokes Hill Wharf are set to begin this month. Chief Minister Paul Henderson said the upgrade will rejuvenate the much loved precinct and ensure its serviceability as a marine structure for the next 50 years. “Fishing, dining out and watching the sunset at Stokes Hill Wharf are popular activities among locals and tourists and this Government wants to preserve this important landmark for future generations,” Mr Henderson said. East Arm has executed Stages 3 and 4 arrangements in accordance with the <Darwin Port Corporation Cyclone Management Plan 2010-11> . The Darwin Port Corporation Chief Executive has advised non-essential staff to remain home on Wednesday 16 February 2011 and to keep appraised of community announcements for their own safety.  The Northern Territory Government will be monitoring the situation in relation to tomorrow, and all government workers should listen to the radio and other media outlets for advice. Cyclone Watch - 15 February 2011

The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) has issued a Cyclone Watch for a developing tropical low for coastal areas from Daly River Mouth to Goulburn Island, including Darwin, Croker Island and the Tiwi Islands.Gale force winds are likely to affect the area within the next 24 hours, however they could develop later. Ship’s Crane Incident – East Arm Wharf

An incident occurred at East Arm Wharf today at 10:40 am, involving the vessel MV “Mell Singapore”, when a ship’s crane discharging an empty 40ft ISO container malfunctioned, leaving that container resting on other containers on the ship.
