Darwin Harbour Clean Up Day was held on 28 September 2020, this year being hosted by Larrakia Nation. Darwin Port again proudly supported the day by providing a team to participate in collecting rubbish.
Darwin Port staff who volunteered their time to support the even, began their clean-up at Buffalo Creek Boat Ramp before working their way along the beach and tree line towards Lee Point. The usual types of rubbish were found including food packaging, glass, aluminium foil, and beverage containers. Overall, ten bags of rubbish were collected by Darwin Port, including a camp chair and two crab pots which was then transported to Fishermans Wharf for the official weigh-in. A total of 2.099 tonnes of rubbish was collected.
As well as removing rubbish from the waters and coastline of the Harbour, the clean-up aims to raise awareness about the effects of rubbish entering our waterways. Darwin Port is proud to be part of an important day of raising awareness, and hopes the message of 'bin it or take it with you' is spread wide and far to keep our waters and coastline rubbish free, and to protect our wildlife.
