Big rig arrives for a month of maintence in Darwin Harbour

The semi submersible drilling rig STENA CLYDE arrived in Darwin Harbour this morning, 24 September 2013.  This impressively large rig is scheduled to remain in Darwin Harbour for around 25 days for maintenance.  A 250 metre safety zone has been established via a Notice to Mariners around the vessel for the duration it remains in Darwin Harbour. » Read more

Channel Enhancement - Building Trade Capacity Through Darwin Port

The Darwin Port Corporation has lodged an application to deepen the shipping channel into the harbour by removing an area of sand ridges at Charles Point Patches. “The projected growth in trade activity and development of major projects in the Territory will see an increase in shipping traffic at Darwin’s East Arm Port.  The Port is critical infrastructure for the Territory’s development, but navigation hazards are limiting access for Panamax bulk carriers and LNG tankers to the harbour,” Chief Minister Adam Giles said. Shipping Channel Enhancement - Charles Point Patches

The Darwin Port Corporation is proposing to deepen a small section of the existing shipping channel in Darwin harbour to allow safer and more efficient shipping access to the port.  The proposal involves dredging the existing shipping channel to 14 metres depth at Charles Point Patches to remove sand ridges that cross the channel. » Read more

Cullen Bay Fuel

The Department of Infrastructure is undertaking essential work at Cullen Bay on Tuesday 24 September. This will require the fuel on the pontoon to be turned off from 8am to 5pm. Subsequently, fuel supplies will not be available from Cullen Bay for this period only. Vessels are asked to use alternative fuelling options at Fisherman’s Wharf.We thank you for your co-operation. New Walkway to Fort Hill Mooring Dolphin

New Ferry Trial for Tiwi Residents

Tiwi residents will soon be able travel to and from Darwin by ferry with a new extended trial service starting next month. Chief Minister Adam Giles has welcomed new operators, SeaLink NT, who will provide a premium level of service for Tiwi residents.
