Maritime Security Identification Card Requirements
Anyone working within a maritime security zone is required to have and display a Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC), or be escorted by a MSIC holder whilst inside a secure zone.
The MSIC is a nationally consistent identification card which confirms that the holder has met the minimum background checking requirements to work in a maritime and/or offshore security zone. An MSIC is not an access control card, and possession of an MSIC does not provide the right of entry to any facility within a maritime security zone. Access to maritime security zones is managed by the Maritime Industry Participant (MIP), or facility operator.
MSIC’s are available from approved Issuing Bodies. There are many in Australia, click here for a list of approved issuing bodies. The Darwin Port utilises the services of Total Marine Services (TMS), in Fremantle to process MSIC applications for its employees.
DP Do not have permanently active security zones. There are many landside and waterside zones throughout the port that DP activate when certain vessels enter the harbour and berth at a regulated facility. When these zones are active you will be required to have an MSIC to enter them.
